JFK- FINALLY, THE TRUTH PART 3: PT-109 THE FACTS HIDDEN FOR DECADES
How did a seriously ill and drug addicted JFK get into the Navy? How did his reckless behavior on the PT 109 earn him acclaim and not a court martial?
There were so many lies used to create a myth that finding truths is nearly impossible. But the big one, is the myth of the youthful JFK at the height of his powers.
JFK was young, but he was not anywhere near what one would call the height of his powers. He battled illnesses almost from day one, and he convinced the press not to photograph him when he wasn't giving speeches as he was on crutches. They went along with it and became propagandists for him, ignoring the women, ignoring the health issues, ignoring the amphetamines, steroids and methedrine he took every day. He was our youngest most vital President they claimed, when in fact had his ailments been known he would not have even been nominated. He knew this, but by using his charm to get the press to go along with him, he made them enablers. By using them to hide his sexual activity not just from the country, but his wife, he made them part of his conspiracy of silence.
Nixon had no idea what he was up against. When he found out, he may have tried a break-in to get JFK's medical records.
At 3 JFK came down with scarlet fever and wasn't expected to live. He was in the hospital for 3 months but that was just the beginning. The ailments that followed were, just to name a few, bronchitis, chicken pox, ear infections, German measles, measles, mumps, and whooping cough. He came down with leukemia as a teen. he was diagnosed with colitis.
Next came Addison's Disease, a problem with the body not making natural steroids. So a concoction was made with amphetamines and methedrine for him to inject every day. He was, a drug addict. The use of these drugs would lead to osteoporosis of lower-back bones and increased incidence of serious infection.
The illnesses effects however weren't daily, and he played sports. After a game of tennis he ended up in the hospital. He played football not realizing he was further damaging his lower back. High on "speed", he felt impervious to pain when he wasn't being hit with illness.
He had a problem. How could he get into the Navy? The war was on, and one major action could propel him to politics, his father's dream. Always had to please daddy, or run the risk of ending up like Rose abandoned in a sanitarium.
Joe Kennedy went to doctors and had them give JFK drugs that would hide his ailments from tests. And that was when the biggest lie of all was to occur. The PT- 109.
When JFK was able to take charge of a PT boat he was hungry for the kind of action that would make him unbeatable after the war. Late at night and in secret before going on a mission, he had the lifeboats removed to place a heavy gun. That alone, was a court martial offense and would have been considered reckless endangerment of his crews life. He hid his drug addiction on the boat, but made decisions that made no sense. On the way to meet an enemy, he let men continue sleeping. That was a court martial offense. He became the only officer in World War 2 to sink his ship by crashing into an enemy ship. Once on an island waiting for a rescue, he abandoned his men for hours at a time to wander around. A court martial offense.
His crew was both terrified and relieved when the rescue came. They were all afraid they would be court martialed along with JFK.
JFK sent a frantic cable to his father. His father went into damage control.
First he contacted the press about the heroic actions of his son battling the enemy. It went from a PT boat crashing into a ship to a pitched gun battle that never happened.
Next he used contacts to place Byron White, an old friend of his, in charge of the inquiry. He may not have had to. The Navy was so pleased about a story that turned reckless actions into heroism they were silent. A Reader's Digest story came out without actually speaking to anyone on the boat and created a completely false battle and a small PT boat being shot to pieces by an enemy ship while the sailors kept firing until the boat sank.
JFK had projected an air of courage, great health and youth. Too bad about the actual facts. There is a new movie about the PT 109 coming out, based on Byron White’s cover-up. Decades later, and they still refuse to tell us the truth. Be seeing you.
